Chapter 6
The air was chilly and the slight breeze was cool to her skin. As she rocked in the chair with a coffee mug in her hand, Skylar knew this was the only way to start her day off. Eyes closed, the sun shining on her. The balcony was her favorite place.
The world seemed to be quieter this time of day. The birds chirped, and people hustled to their cars in a mad attempt to not be late for work. Not her this morning. No rushing, just enjoying.
She told herself it was a thinking free day, if possible. She wished a certain person away and if she just didn’t think about that darn name then maybe things could get uncomplicated again.
The sliding glass door opened, and Amy popped her head out. “I’m heading to work. Enjoy your day.”
“You too, Ames. Thanks again for dinner last night. It was so nice not eating a sandwich or take-out again. You’re going to make some man happy one day with your cooking!”
“Finding a man is the problem.” She laughed. “See ya, girl.”
Waving a hand, Skylar went back to her coffee. She plopped her feet up on the railing, leaning the chair back. Putting her mug to her mouth, she took a long sip. The caramel flavored coffee was just what her taste buds craved this morning. Setting the mug in her lap, her eyes slowly closed again.
Beep beep.
Her eyes opened when she heard the sound of a new text on her phone. Damn, she should have left that stupid thing on her nightstand instead of bringing it out here with her. Most likely the new instructor called in sick and they wanted her to come to work. She briefly considered ignoring it, but then she reached down and picked the phone up off the deck.
Drew: Free for lunch?
Lifting one eyebrow and puckering her lips, she tried to hold herself back from feeling any excitement that it was from him. She felt a little giddy, like a school girl, even though she should be angry. Maybe it helped that Amy had talked to him and cleared things up a little.
Skylar: Maybe
Taking her feet back down from the rails, she began to rock again, staring at her phone, waiting for the reply. Then it came.
Drew: Would like to talk, in a public place? Little Italy?
Skylar: Twelve o’clock, be there.
Drew: Wouldn’t miss it.
Hitting the lock button on her phone, she decided a shower was in order and a look over her wardrobe was a must. Hopefully she and Drew could finally clear the air. Get all the baggage between them cleared up.

Drew arrived early so he could find the perfect spot for them. There was a corner booth in the back of the dimly lit restaurant. He was thankful to see it open and requested the table. Letting the host know a beautiful redhead would be joining him, he took his seat. The place usually wasn’t too busy at lunch, which was good. It would be quiet enough that they wouldn’t have to yell at one another.
